St George's Church of England Primary School

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is all the planned activities that we as a school organise in order to promote learning, personal growth and development. It includes not only the formal requirements of the National Curriculum, but also a range of extra- curricular activities that the school organises in order to enrich the experiences of our children. It also includes the ‘hidden curriculum’, or what the children learn from the way they are treated and expected to behave. We recognise that pupils should be challenged in their schooling; learning from failures and celebrating successes. We intend for our curriculum to be empowering, enabling pupils to develop their interpersonal skills, creativity and independence.

In conjunction with our vision and the promotion of our school virtues, we aim to teach the children how to grow into positive, responsible people who can work and cooperate with others, whilst developing knowledge, skills and attitudes to learning, in order to achieve their full potential. At St George’s we have designed our curriculum with pupils’ learning at the centre. We recognise that a curriculum has to be broad, balanced and offer pupils opportunities to grow as individuals as well as learners.

Through a combination of learning techniques, we aim to ensure pupils enjoy learning and feel prepared for life after school. We also offer our pupils new and exciting experiences through educational visits, workshops, enrichment weeks, activities that are designed to promote enquiry, build resilience, confidence and self-esteem.

Should you require any further information in relation to the Curriculum, please contact Mrs Hazel Murphy, Assistant Headteacher.
