St George’s CE Primary school has a strong tradition of music making and embraces music as an integral part of school life. We offer a rich and diverse range of musical opportunities and both specialist teachers and class teachers implement the music curriculum. EYFS and KS1 develop their vocal control and singing technique, and explore rhythm and pitch using small percussion instruments. Through a range of songs and games the children express their emotions, develop confidence and self-control. KS2 develop their musical abilities and experiences through singing, learning recorder, djembe drums and jumbie-jam steel pans, as well as composing, performing and using music technology.
The Chamber Choir are an enthusiastic and talented group of young musicians from KS2, who love to sing and make music together. The fabulous St George’s Community Choir (consisting of parents, staff and pupils) meet weekly and have great fun singing a wide repertoire of songs. Both choirs perform at local community events and never fail to bring a smile to everyone who hears them.
The school also facilitates individual music lessons in a wide variety of instruments, which are given by BYMT staff, at extra cost – forms are available on request from the office. Rocksteady Music School provide rock and pop band lessons, giving pupils the chance to play in a band and get hands-on experience playing drums, guitar, keyboard or vocals. Further details can be obtained from the School office or from the Rocksteady website. We always look forward to the termly music concerts in which we celebrate the huge variety of musical talent at St George's school.
