St George's Church of England Primary School

Maths

At St George’s we use the White Rose scheme to provide children with opportunities to solve problems, reason, think logically and work systematically and accurately through building a solid grasp of number facts, fluency in the fundamentals of Primary mathematics, and using precise mathematical vocabulary to explain their thinking.  We teach children through a Mastery approach, all individuals are challenged and develop resilience, understanding that ‘struggle’ is often a necessary step in learning and having the confidence to take risks.

Our aim is for every child to succeed and receive an excellent mathematics education, to ensure that their life chances are positively transformed.  We want pupils to see the importance of Mathematics in everyday life and understand that mathematics is an interconnected subject and make rich connections across mathematical ideas.
